Airtel Payment Bank Receives Permission To Create New Customers
Airtel Payment Bank has got permission from the Reserve Bank to add new customers. The issuing UIDAI has also given permission for the use of 12-digit base based e-KYC for new customers. About seven months ago, Airtel customers had allegedly come under the scanner for making the customer of Airtel Payment Bank without their consent.
The information provided by the Reserve Bank and UIDAI through the statement of the Airtel Payment Bank has been given. Seven months ago, Airtel and its payment bank came in difficult when the account of Airtel subscribers was opened in the bank without their permission and the money for their LPG subsidy was deposited in it. In this way the subsidy of crores of rupees was deposited in these accounts.
After this case came to light, Reserve Bank had stopped Airtel Payment Bank from making new customers and UIDAI canceled the E-KYC license of Airtel and its payment bank. Although the company had denied any disturbances and had said to follow the guidelines.
UIDAI allowed Airtel to verify through its customers base in March this year. But the payment bank's e-KYC license was not restored. According to the bank statement, it has received the necessary approval to add new customers to the Reserve Bank. He told that UIDAI has also given permission to create new customers using base based e-KYC.
The bank has said that it is committed to the financial inclusion and the government's goal of delivering banking services to all. Airtel Payment bank can provide banking services like other general banks. But their transactions will be of small amounts and they will not be able to give any loans. However, these banks are allowed to deposit one lakh rupees.
